If you count the number of characters you typed, you might not count 14. However, there are two invisible characters at the end of each line (carriage return and line feed) and the last line of the file is a line that contains just those two invisible characters.

To show the contents of the file in the DOS window, use the TYPE command:

The characters you entered into the file are typed out onto the screen.

Alternative: Another way to create the file and to edit its contents is with the Windows program NotePad. Start a DOS window and then type the command NOTEPAD (upper or lower case is fine). Enter the numbers just as you would with a word processor. Save the file using NotePad's File menu. You can access this menu with a mouse, as is normal for Windows programs.
